Wild about wine!

Most people have some sappy story about why they started their blog, but ya not us. We are best friends who got bored during the Covid quarantine and decided we needed to do something. As we were talking about brilliant ideas, and I mean brilliant, we said we should get rich drinking… (we can dream about the rich part). Our desire to drink at 2 pm one day led to the realization we may have an unhealthy love of wine. And when I say love I mean LOVE. Hence: The Winehoes. The purpose of this blog is to take the pretentiousness out of wine.

We are two Midwestern girls that have, let’s be frank, drank a lot of wine. We want to not only educate ourselves about wine in this process but find staples to add to our ever growing rotation of wines. We want to help everyday people find wine that is affordable and tasty. We know not everyone’s palate is the same, ours are similar but very different too. We want to find out if that $40 bottle is really worth it or is that $20 bottle (or less) just as good. We plan to try as many wines as we can because let’s be real if you are reading this you are much a wine enthusiast as we are. Our plan is to post things weekly but as we know life always gets in the way. So in the words of Benjamin Franklin- “The discovery of a wine is a greater moment than the discovery of a constellation. The universe is too full of stars.” So with that let’s get drinking!

So who are we? We have been best friends since college even though we went to high school together. One of us may have been scared of the other…. Our love for wine started in college; however, let’s be real clear Carlo Rossi is not wine (sorry Carlo!!). Once we graduated and actually had money to spend our affinity continued to grow.

My name is Lindsey- mom of 2 boys under 3 and one doodle. And in true transparency this whole quarantine thing has me consuming wine like never before. Wine to the rescue. Top 3 favorite wines if I could afford anything: Duckhorn’s 3 Palms Merlot, Rombauer’s 2017 El Dorado “Twin Rivers” Zinfandel, and Miner’s Pinot Nior Rosella’s Vineyard. Now just because I named 3 doesn’t mean thats all I drink…I love Red Zinfandels, Red Blends, Pinots, and love a good non dry white wine.

My name is Jackie- new dog mom to Fitz who is 3 months old. So wine has been a staple from 5-8 PM to power through the “puppy zoomies.” Nothing prepares you for potty training a puppy who doesn’t understand the word No! So as Lindsey said wine to the rescue! Unlike Lindsey I could not name a top 3 because lets be real I will drink any type of wine. I tend to prefer red wines (cabs or blends mostly) but will not turn down a good glass of white wine (non-dry) or rosé. I do really love Trefethen’s Dragon Tooth and bonus… they ship to Ohio!!

We’ve had the good, the bad, and the ugly in terms of wine, but want to focus on wines that you can get for a reasonable price because well we are cheap (Lindsey wrote that line not Jackie). The wines we will be trying will be $20 and under. This is not to say we might not throw in more expensive bottles from time to time because both of us are part of numerous wine clubs and sometimes you just want to feel fancy. But who doesn’t want to find some affordable wines that taste amazing! When we review them we will be honest because neither of us know much about wine besides if we like it or we don’t. So we will tell you thumbs up or down and if we would buy it again.

If there is a wine you want us to try send us a message! We are going to have themes so without much further ado our first tasting is going to be…. drumroll please….. Rosés!! Our first review will be up later next week. So stayed tuned and welcome to The Winehoes! We look forward to all the drinking!
